Paper Pedestal

Posted on

This post is basically a giant lie. Nothing is what it actually appears to be. Neither the bag, the vase or the pouffe are paper and the flowers are not daisies. The bag is leather, the vase is veramic, the pouffe is made of Tyvek and the flowers of ceramic and metal. I love the reinvention of certain ideas and implementing these to create something completely unique, ironic and playful.

This bag has been on my dream list for almost two years. It was continuously sold out or it couldn't be sent to Germany. Finally I managed to find it and now it's arrived. The concept immediately spoke to me. The original brown paper bag has been with us for longer than I can remember, either as a grocery bag, a lunch bag and of course as a discreet cover up for illegal public drinking escapades. With a life expectancy of maybe a week, its reinvention by Ramon Middelkoop into a durable, leather handbag called My Paper Bag means it will be your trusty companion for far longer than its original. The fact that its fairtrade and produced via an environmentally friendly process in India means you know where your money is going and that you are supporting something truly good.

Apartment: Miniature Details

Alasdair and I suddenly came down with food poisoning yesterday. It was horrible and we are still feeling a bit delicate. Here are some photos of little design details in our flat.

1. My favourite embroidered elephant wearing my Marshall headphones. My custom engraved wooden iPhone case (I know, it's cheesy).

2. Reinventing glassware. This was previously used for our balsamic vinegar but the shape was too beautiful to just throw it out afer it was finished. Inside are my homemade paper flowers.

3. Reiventing wine corks. Instead of throwing them out I create animals out of them using these sets.

I hope you're all having an amazing easter weekend!
